If your paid or free MuseSounds have disappeared from MuseScore Studio, please follow this guide to restore your sounds. You should follow this guide step by step.

1. Restart MuseScore Studio

MuseSounds are only activated when MuseScore Studio launches, if you have installed new sounds while MuseScore Studio was open, please restart it.

This is only applicable for newly installed sounds, if your existing sounds have gone missing, please continue to the next step.

2. Ensure MuseHub / MuseSounds Manager is up to date

We frequently release updates and improvements to MuseHub and MuseSounds Manager, in particular after our July 2025 outage, you must ensure you're using at least the following versions of our software.

Windows: 2.3.8+

macOS: 2.2.5+

Linux: 2.0.4+

To find what version of MuseHub / MuseSounds Manager you are running, follow the steps for your platform.

Windows: Launch MuseHub, click on the "Settings" tab, and scroll to the bottom.

macOS: Launch MuseHub, click on "MuseHub" on the macOS menu bar, and click "About"

Linux: Launch MuseSounds Manager, click on the settings icon on the top right of the window, and scroll to the bottom.

If you are running an older version, simply download the latest version from these links below:

3. Restart MuseHub / MuseSounds Manager

If you're up to date or have just updated. Make sure you restart MuseHub while MuseScore Studio is closed. MuseHub must be fully restarted (make sure it's not sitting in the system tray or status bar). If in doubt, restart your device and launch MuseHub to make sure it fully restarts.

Generally speaking, if sounds are missing or unavailable launching MuseHub before MuseScore Studio should fix it.

Once MuseHub has restarted, wait 2-3 minutes, then launch MuseScore Studio. This process allows MuseHub to update any files that MuseSounds needs (which can only be done when MuseScore Studio is closed).

If you get any errors after restarting MuseHub about "MuseSampler" and not being unable to copy a file, this means MuseScore Studio is still running somewhere. It's best you restart your device and try again.

4. Ensure you are logged in (Windows / macOS)

If you have paid MuseSounds and they are missing (only applicable to Windows and macOS), ensure you are signed into MuseHub, and that your sounds appear within the Library tab of MuseHub.

If your sounds are missing from the library tab, double check you have signed in with the correct MuseHub account.

5. Check Device Registration Status

Visit https://www.musehub.com/account/devices and sign in to your MuseHub account, you can only have 5 devices active at any time. If you have 5 devices, try removing some, and then restart MuseHub.

6. Uninstall / Install MuseSounds

Sometimes MuseHub can get stuck and not update the necessary files to ensure MuseSounds work. To get around this issue, find a sound that you have that's already installed within MuseHub, uninstall it, and install it again. Make sure you restart MuseScore Studio afterwards.

There are also known issues with saving MuseSounds on folders backed up by OneDrive. If you are encountering issues, please make sure your MuseSounds are stored elsewhere.

7. Contact Support

If after all these steps your MuseSounds are still missing (including after fully restarting your device and trying step 3 again), please contact our support team.

If you are using Linux, please check our known issues page about the missing unzip dependency before contacting support.
