Issues installing MuseSounds have been recurring for MONTHS
Hello!
To those of you looking for a temporary solution, the only thing that sometimes worked was switching to my 2.4GHz WiFi and having absolutely NO external processes that could interfere with the speed of the installation. It takes several trials (usually takes hours of each), so I usually have to repeat this over the course of at least a few days.
I love all the benefits that come with Muse Hub (when it works), but I'm very frustrated that it rarely does. I eked by with consecutive days of trial and error to install the Muse Sounds I've owned before, but recent updates have caused my temporary solution to break again. It has since been three days of me trying each day to redownload Muse Strings since the update had made my old version of Muse Strings unusable (I couldn't get the Muse Sound to show up as a soundfont in Muse Score). Someone on the Muse Hub team marked a request I made three months ago as Solved which kinda irked me considering I still am having to settle for the same rickety solution and spent money on a Muse Sound expecting it to work as it should. Here's that thread:
Me: "Hi!
So I haven't encountered this problem much until recently. I had problems with certain instruments either not playing sounds at all or playing random long notes not contingent with anything I've written. Usually it fixes itself when I uninstall and reinstall MuseScore and MuseHub or uninstall and reinstall the specific Muse Sound causing issues.
Today, Muse Strings uninstalled itself when everything had been working fine yesterday. Whenever I tried downloading it, I get the exact pop-up when the progress bar reaches the end:
"
Muse Strings
Unknown error; could not complete download
"
That's it. What's weird is I saw the files for all the Muse Sounds in either the MuseHub, MuseSampler, or MuseScore folder (I can't remember which one because I deleted them all) located at C:\Users\[myname]\AppData\Local
Now, all the MuseSounds I had installed are gone (contingent with what I see in MuseHub), and the problem I had with Muse Strings has now become the case for all the Muse Sounds I originally had downloaded. I tried completely deleting and reinstalling everything including MuseScore, MuseHub, every Muse Sound, but the problem persists.
Thank you in advance!"
Muse Team: "Hi Caden,
Thanks for reaching out, sorry to hear it's giving you trouble. Some troubleshooting questions for you:
- What version of the Hub are you running?
- Does the download start at all, or does the error message pop up as soon as you hit download?
- Have you had download issues with anything else in the Hub?
- Have you confirmed there is a download location set through the Hub? Sometimes when the Hub is reset/re-installed, that folder may not be automatically selected

Me: "Hi [Name],
- Version 2.0.17.1335 (x64)
- The download starts and shows the progress bar moving all the way to the end like normal and then the error message pops up when it looks like it's finished. The progress bar disappears, and everything in MuseHub's UI indicates that I never installed the particular Muse Sound that shows that error message.
- Yesterday, I was able to download MuseScore and almost all of the Muse Sounds (even Muse Strings) after I deleted everything from my computer files (besides the scores folder) and uninstalled MuseHub, MuseScore, and all the Muse Sounds. Now, CinePerc and Muse Woodwinds are the only ones I get the error message from (I haven't tried installing Muse Percussion since I want to replace it with the playback from CinePerc).
- Under the Installation section of the settings in MuseHub, both the Muse Sounds installation folder and Elements installation folder are set to default their download location to C:\Users\[my name]\Muse Hub so yes."
Muse Team: "Hi Caden,
Thanks for confirming. I've sent your replies over to the team for further investigation as they look into this issue.
In the meantime, have you tried using a different network to download the Sounds, if possible? Are you using a VPN on your computer at all, or anything that changes network traffic?
How much storage space do you have on your device? If you're almost full, it may be worth installing the Muse Sounds to an external drive to free up that space.

Me: "Hello [Name],
I have tried downloading the Sounds using both my home's 2.4 and 5.0 Ghz Wi-Fi.
My computer has no VPN installed, and I know this for a fact now because I reset my OS today.
I have 117GB on my C drive and 512GB on my D drive.
I attached a log file from my latest attempt at downloading them all in case it is useful."
Muse Team: "Hi Caden,
Thanks for sending that over. I've escalated this over to the team, and they'll continue to take a look through this. I'll let you know what I hear back from them as soon as I can.
Likewise, if you have questions or updates on this issue, feel free to reply in this thread here any time.
Thanks for your patience and your willingness to troubleshoot with us - we'll do what we can to get everything back up and running for you as soon as possible.
Best,

Me: "Thank you so much!
Update: Since I last redownloaded MuseHub, I've only been able download Muse Choir, Muse Guitars Vol. 1, Muse Harp, and Muse Keys. I get the error message when I try to download any of the other ones I had installed before/had purchased."
Muse Team: "Hi Caden,
Apologies for the delay as I was out of office. Are you still having trouble downloading the Muse Sounds, or anything else in the Hub? I can check in with the team again on this to see what the status is, and if you have any further info from your end, feel free to pass it along any time.
Thanks for your patience as we look into this -
